Description

  • 4 large onions
  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. Peel the onions and boil in salted water for 10-15 minutes until tender but firm.
  3. In a skillet, brown the ground meat over medium heat, then drain excess fat. Stir in rice, herbs, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, and cinnamon; simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Carefully hollow out the boiled onions and stuff them generously with the filling.
  5. Place stuffed onions upright in the baking dish. Add extra tomato sauce if desired, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs.
