Description

Indulge in the warm, buttery goodness of homemade Pretzel Bread, where the chewy texture of pretzels meets the comfort of freshly baked bread. With its golden-brown crust and soft interior, this delightful treat is perfect for snacking or pairing with your favorite soups and dips. Easy to make, even beginner bakers will impress friends and family with this crowd-pleaser that brings nostalgia to every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • 1 tbsp coarse sea salt (plus extra for sprinkling)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water with yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture while stirring until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth.
  3. Let it rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape pretzels: Punch down the risen dough, divide into eight pieces, roll each into ropes, and twist into pretzel shapes on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  5. Boil and bake: Boil water with baking soda; then boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds on each side. Transfer back to baking sheets, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with salt.
  6. Golden perfection: Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
