Cake
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Filling
  • 1 cup cherries pitted and halved
  • 1 cup whipped cream

Method
 

Prepare the Cake
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Assemble the Cake
  1. Let the cake cool completely before removing it from the pan.
  2. Slice the cake in half horizontally. Layer cherries and whipped cream between the layers.
  3. Top with additional whipped cream and cherries before serving.
