Preparation
- Soak the basmati rice in water for at least 30 minutes.
- In a pot, sauté the chopped onion in butter until golden.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned.
- Stir in turmeric, salt, and pepper.
- Add water and let it simmer until the chicken is cooked through.
Cooking the Rice
- In another pot, bring water to a boil and add the soaked rice.
- Cook the rice until it is al dente, then drain.
- Layer the cooked rice over the chicken in the pot.
- Add barberries on top and cover to steam for 15 minutes.
